🇹🇼⚾Taiwan baseball! Kaohsiung TSG Hawks vs Wei Chuan Dragons. Play Ball!

On an incredibly humid August day in Koashiung Southern Taiwan, I caught one of my favorite American pastimes, a professional baseball game. I thought the game might get rained out but it didn't and it was a dance and singing filled, high scoring, good time. I walked around the stadium and got different angles plus the vibe of the crowd. Even had a hot dog! I started off in the visiting team Dragons section which has some passionate fans but got around to where the local Hawks fans and cheerleaders were too..

The Chinese Professional Baseball League has existed only since 1989. But baseball has been popular in Taiwan ever since the Japanese colonial era of 1895-1945. The Japanese became obsessed with baseball way back in the 1870s when an American teacher taught them the game. And they brought it to Taiwan. It was great seeing the multiple generations of families watching the game together. And the very young fans and young girls cheering and following the chants. Made me happy to see. And the crowd was knowledgeable, cheering or groaning on important pitches in the count, or acknowledging good plays.

The Hawks got out to a good lead but the Dragons tied it up 5-5 with a big home run. The Hawks though hit a late homer to get 7-5 and won the game! Great to see some home runs, some high scoring, and of course I wasn't filming when all the action was happening. Beers and food were inexpensive. It was a fun time at the ballpark. I been to a game now in Korea and Taiwan, next to see has to be Japan.
