"Glimpse Of Us" by Joji is a beautifully written, vulnerable hit about a man who is dating a wonderful woman but is still not quite over his ex girlfriend. This song is everything it should be: heart-wrenching, sad, emotional, maybe even a little bit uncomfortable, and I admire it deeply. With that being said, I can't help but wonder... what is the other side of the story? Is the ex girlfriend missing him too? Is the ex girlfriend moving on? What was their relationship like? Why did it end? In this reimagined version of Joji's "Glimpse Of Us", I wrote from the perspective of the ex girlfriend--the one who found a deeper love without him than she ever had with him. This is often how life goes for many. You date, you love, and eventually, you find your person. Everyone before, while you might have cared for them, loved them, and wished them the best, do not compare to your soulmate. I imagined this ex girlfriend to be the man's "girl who got away," the man's "I let her go when I had her." The ex girlfriend feels quite the opposite. She feels relieved that love is more than what she has seen and experienced. She feels value and self-love in the arms of someone who treats her like she has never been treated. She feels thankful to have found something deeper. Contrary to the man, she feels grateful that she can confidently look at her relationship and say that it in no way resembles her previous one. "I know I won't find a glimpse of us." Thanks for listening to my reimagined cover (contrafactum, pov) of Joji's "Glimpse of Us." I hope it makes you feel something.
