Power situation:
Russia pounded Ukraine and Odesa area with many massive missile attacks starting in October They primarily targeted electrical substations and infrastructure. As a result our power situation in late fall and through most of the winter was very bad. January was the worst month for us with the power off more than it was on. By February Russia gave up on hitting infrastructure targets and the government was able to fix and even upgrade much of the power grid. In March we only experienced 2 power outages for the whole month! Now with the warmer weather there is less strain on the power grid and it feels like our power situation is nearly back to normal!

Update on the war
Over the past month or so we have seen a decrease in the number of massive missile attacks in our area. However, Russia is still targeting Odesa and other areas in the South at times. Earlier this month one Russian missile made it through our air defenses and struck a Russian Orthodox Monastery on the Southern end of town.
Chile
In February we made a quick hop down to Chile for 3 weeks to visit our daughter Naomi, her husband Jorge, and our 3 granddaughters. Oh, sorry, I should have said we went to visit our 3 granddaughters and their parents! Actually, we visited 5 churches while we were there. We shared about Ukraine and I preached God’s Word. What a joy to see 3 new church plants! Naomi and Jorge are involved in Somos Iglesia plant in Rio Bueno with fellow ABWE missionaries Nick and Bekah Ecker.

Blankets
Many of you responded to our blanket project and generously donated to help provide blankets to internally displaced people and to front line areas of the war. You enabled Ukrainian churches to give out more than 3000 blankets to in places like Odesa, Mykolaiv, Kherson, Kharkiv, Kyiv, Zaporozhiya and others! This powerful testifies of God’s love and his care! It gives opportunity for local churches to share the gospel and, of course, it provides real and needed warmth to people in need!

Seeds
People are returning to their war-torn towns and villages in many of the liberated areas. For some there is little left of their homes, but home is home and they are just glad that the Russians are gone! Planting season is now, so we decided to provide these people with a collection of seeds that they can plant in their own gardens to provide them with fresh vegetables in the summer. We purchased over 10,000 seed individual packets and put them together to make a collection of different vegetables for planting. Each envelope contains 12 different seed packets and costs about $5.00.

We distributed all 1,000 of the envelopes here in Odesa and Mykolaiv. We also gave them gospel literature along with the seed! Please pray that both the physical and spiritual seeds will find good soil!

"Bible Today" journal
Above all we want to clearly proclaim the truth of God’s Word, to those to whom we are giving aid. In order to do this we are producing a bi-monthly journal designed to be given out along with aid ministries. We print the journal in Russian and in Ukrainian to make sure that everyone can easily understand in their preferred language.

Correspondance Bible course
The next step is to offer people a means to study God’s Word in depth. In order to do this we are producing a correspondence Bible study course that covers some of the most important Biblical stories of the Old and New Testament. We are now just finishing writing the last of 48 lessons. These lessons are placed in 5 workbooks with 10 lessons each. As churches visit frontline villages they invite people to study the Bible with them.

Missions summit
Last weekend we held an all Ukraine youth missions summit here in Odesa. What a huge encouragement to see young people come from all over Ukraine to talk and learn and pray about missions! Just 3 days before the summit we had a missile strike just 1 mile from the church where the summit was planned. Despite the missile strike the summit went ahead as planned and everyone trusted in God’s protection! Nearly 400 people

My topic was “Risk and the mission of God!” What a difficult but needed topic. I praise God that he has seen fit to allow me to continue to minister here in Ukraine despite what some would consider “risk.” Living and ministering in war we realize that with God there is no real risk! Our lives are His, our future is His, and what more can we offer to God than the sacrifice of our own lives!
