Описание к видео Emma Rawicz (live @Transition Festival 2024)

She describes herself on Instagram as “Emma Rawicz (ra-vich), noise architect”. The 21-year-old Emma Rawicz is the latest discovery on London's vibrant jazz scene, which has been causing a worldwide stir for years. And despite her young age, she has already achieved an enormous amount: winner of the Parliamentary Jazz Awards, finalist at the Jazz FM Awards and the BBC Young Jazz Musician Competition.

The ascent of saxophonist Emma Rawicz has been meteoric. Born in rural north Devon in 2002, as a child she studied classical violin and didn’t take up saxophone until her mid-teens, but by 2022, aged 20, she was on the Royal Academy of Music jazz course and had released her debut album, Incantation. Rawicz has chromesthesia, a type of synesthesia, meaning she sees specific colours when she hears certain sounds. This inspired her approach to writing for Chroma, her latest album, on which all but one of the tracks are named after obscure colours such as rangwali and viridian.
