The FIA Cyber Crime Wing has issued a warning to users about how fraudsters can trick them into losing access to their WhatsApp accounts. The FIA has highlighted that fraudsters are operating under the guise of organizations such as the Higher Education Commission, Pakistan Medical and Dental Council, and Pakistan Engineering Council. These fraudsters request verification codes from users, claiming to be verifying degrees on WhatsApp. Sharing this code can lead to your account being compromised.

Once an account is hacked, criminals use it to deceive the victim’s contacts and collect money. The FIA advises users not to share their verification codes with anyone and to report any suspicious messages or calls immediately.

How to Protect Your Account

Enable Two-Factor Authentication: Activate this feature on WhatsApp for added security.
Report Suspicious Activity: Immediately inform the FIA Cyber Crime Wing about any suspicious calls or messages.
Recent Fraud Incidents

Several incidents have recently come to light where users have received messages from what appeared to be their friends’ WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger accounts, asking for money after casual greetings. These messages often include promises of quick repayment. In some cases, the request involved a small amount of money, which raised concerns that the situation was a scam.
