Neeraj Chopra Misses Gold, But Streak Stays Alive!

World Champion and Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra had a hard outing at the Diamond League final in Zurich on Thursday, yet kept his incredible streak alive.Neeraj finished second with a clutch final throw of 85.01m, extending his top-two streak to 26 successive events. He admitted, ‘Today was a hard day — my timing and run-up were off, but I still managed over 85m. With three weeks until the World Championships, I’ll give my best.’

The event was dominated by Germany’s Julian Weber, who stunned the crowd with two massive 91m-plus throws early on, his best at 91.51m. He sealed the top spot with another strong throw of 88.66m in the final round.

Keshorn Walcott, the 2012 London Olympics gold medalist from Trinidad & Tobago, grabbed third place with 84.95m.Neeraj started with 84.35m, dipped to 82m in his second, followed by three fouls, putting his streak in danger. But his final 85m-plus effort lifted him from third to second.

Others in the field included Anderson Peters (81.41m, fourth) and Julius Yego (80.49m, fifth).
Neeraj, who won the Diamond League final in 2022 at the same venue, has now secured back-to-back second-place finishes in 2023 and 2024.
Once again, India’s golden boy held his nerve on the world stage.
