PURE CHAOS at the THAILAND LANTERN FESTIVAL | Chiang Mai, Thailand

Today we took part in the annual Thailand Lantern Festival in Chiang Mai! The lantern festival, also known as Loy Krathong, originated from an old Brahim Festival that was created to pay respects to the water spirits. It was then later adapted to show respect to Buddha. It is celebrated on the Full-Moon Night of the 12th Lunar Month.

There are a couple of ways (some more expensive than others) that you can take part in this celebration! We (of course) decided to take part in the free portion happening in the city of Chiang Mai and WOW was it ever CHAOS!! A beautiful kind of chaos. With fireworks, mass amounts of people, lanterns burning, and even trees on fire; this night got crazier and crazier as the hours went by.

We hope to show the reality of what the lantern festival in Chiang Mai is like because it was definitely different from how instagram shows it. With all kinds of events, and activities to take part in it was certainly a night that we won’t soon forget.
