In this video we study in detail the issue of magnetic saturation in voltage-fed push-pull converters. The DC and AC components of the magnetic flux density are calculated. It is shown how the DC component is almost unlimited in this type of converters, causing the biasing of the magnetic flux towards saturation. This creates high current through the switches that lead to poor efficiency. Qspice simulations are presented to support the analysis and illustrate the different ideas.
