The Heritage Emergency National Task Force (HENTF) is a coalition of 58 federal agencies and national service organizations co-sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Smithsonian Institution. Its mission: to protect cultural heritage from the damaging effects of natural disasters and other emergencies. Learn how this public-private partnership – which counts CoSA, the Society of American Archivists (SAA), the National Association of Government Archives and Records Administrators (NAGARA), and the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) among its members – provides the arts and culture community with guidance and technical assistance before, during, and especially after disasters. This overview will discuss the challenge of incorporating cultural resources into the incident management structure – and what you can do as a member of the archives community to champion their protection.
