An Alaska Adventure with Oru Kayak - The Kayak that goes anywhere

Like everyone, Kenneth and Ariana’s plans were disrupted by Covid in 2019. They had planned to elope but had to make a shift in lieu of this. Thinking back on what his father had said to him that we are living in the golden age of travel, and their passion to always find new ways to get on the water — they decided on a beautiful and adventure-filled trip to Ketchikan Alaska on what would have been their wedding day.

Ketchikan Alaska has been said to be the beginning of the last frontier. It is located at the southernmost entrance to Alaska’s passage. A place best known for its picturesque views, state of serenity, abundant with salmon, and rich with culture. Ketchikan is also known as “The Salmon Capital of the World.” So if you ever take a trip here, don’t forget your camera!

After some research, they decided on Oru Kayak to accompany them on this trip. The main deciding factor was that they are extremely portable, lightweight, and compact. Since they reside in a cozy 2 bedroom in a Chicago highrise, they needed something they could stow away in their closet at home. For this trip they also needed it to be transported via plane, but with the Oru packs that was easy-peezy — with only the cost of a regular-sized luggage check-in, to boot! So on they went.

After they landed Kenneth and his fiance Ariana took the Inlet and Bay ST which were strapped to their backs onto a ferry over to the beautiful Ketchikan. From there they took a seaplane to the remote Heckman Lake. Assembling the Inlet and the Bay ST was super easy and in just a few minutes they were on the water. The Inlet is great for beginners, extremely stable, and it's the most compact of the lineup. The Bay ST is a closed cockpit kayak that is durable, a more performance model that can handle the choppier waters.

So when life throws a curveball at you, it’s up to you to make the best out of the situation. Don’t dwell on what isn’t, look at it as an opportunity and hit it out of the park.
