Churros is a type of fried dough from Spanish and Portuguese cuisine, made with choux pastry dough.
Choux pastry dough is a cooked dough that is used to make churros, profiteroles and eclairs too.
Churros are traditionally made using eggs but can be made eggless too.
Churros are piped into hot oil with a piping bag and large star tip and are fried till golden and crisp.
These are then tossed in a cinnamon sugar.
I have shared both the choux pastry recipes, with egg and without eggs with you.
I have also shared the recipe of a 5 minute chocolate sauce to enjoy the churros with!

Churros (With Egg)
Preparation time: 20 minutes
Cooking time: 10 minutes
Serves: 4-5

Ingredients:
250 g water
100g butter
150g flour
2 tbsp sugar
3 Eggs

Method:
Boil water with butter and salt in a stock pot. Sift in the flour and whisk thoroughly till it forms a soft dough. Remove dough into steel bowl and beat using electric whisk.
While the dough is still warm, add lightly beaten eggs gradually at regular intervals. Continue beating till mixture is smooth.
Fill prepared batter into piping bags with star nozzles. Press it over medium hot oil and cut it with scissors to a desired length.
Fry to a golden colour and remove. Serve dusted with cinnamon sugar or with a sauce of choice.

Churros (Without Egg)
Preparation time: 20 minutes
Cooking time: 10 minutes
Serves: 4-5

Ingredients:
1 cup water
1cup flour
2 tbsp oil
2 ½ tbsp sugar
¼ tsp baking soda

Method:
Boil water with oil in a stock pot. Sift in the flour and whisk thoroughly till it forms a soft dough. Remove dough into steel bowl and beat using electric whisk.
While the dough is still warm, add baking soda and continue beating till mixture is smooth.
You may add 2 tbsp milk or water if the dough is too stiff to be piped out.
Fill prepared batter into piping bags with star nozzles. Press it over medium hot oil and cut it with scissors to a desired length.
Fry to a golden colour and remove. Serve dusted with cinnamon sugar or with a sauce of choice.


Cinnamon Sugar
Ingredients:
½ cup caster sugar
2 tsp cinnamon powder

Method:
Mix together the sugar and cinnamon powder.

Chocolate Sauce
Preparation time: 5 minutes
Cooking time: 5 minutes
Serves: 5-6

Ingredients:
1 cup chopped chocolate
1 cup milk
1 tsp cornflour

Method:
Mix together the ingredients in a pan.
Cook, stirring continuously, till the sauce is thick and glossy.
