In today's video, I'll be opening and reviewing a 2022-23 Panini Chronicles Basketball Hobby box. These boxes are available on Panini's website for $250 a box or can be found on the secondary market for $240-270.
Each box contains 6 8-card packs. You can expect to find 2 autographs per box.
Chronicles consists of a multitude of other sets including the new additions of Dynagon, Pinnacle, Score Premium, and Vertex. There are a slew of Hobby exclusive sets including Gold Standard, Plates & Patches, Timeless Treasures, and Titanium. The ultra-rare Gala insert is also a Hobby only set.
While parallels are not guarenteed, you will find about 6-8 parallels per box. Numbered cards include Red(#'d/149), Blue(#'d/99), Orange(#'d/75), Purple(#'d/49), Swirl(#'d/25), Gold(#'d/10), and Platinum(1/1).
First year player autographs come in Gold Standard Rookie Jersey Autographs, Phoenix Rookie Autographs, Rookie Cornerstones, and others. Veteran and Star autographs can be found in the all new sets including Luminance Ink Autographs, Portrait Signatures, Score Premium Signatures, and Under the Lights Autographs.

🚨FINAL RATING: 2.5/5 🃏🃏🃏🚨
🃏🃏 for SET QUALITY/DESIGN: How many sets are enough sets? Chronicles wouldn't know the answer to that. There are so many subsets in Chronicles it borders on the edge of ridiculous. You couldn't hope to see every one opening one box. Probably not 2 either. And Panini keeps piling on to the list year over year. Gotta accomodate print runs somehow. Otherwise, Chronicles is standard fair. There is a mix of paper, foil, and chrome cards. Beware the corner of foil!!!
🃏🃏🃏 for VALUE: I'm going to value fun factor here. Otherwise, it's a 2 all day. Chronicles is a hoot to rip. It's a plethora of veritable pack opening goodness. Rookies and stars, oh my! Every card is something to look at. But gluttony isn't a good thing. The problem with Chronicles is supply. It's everywhere. Like a plague. Card values for anything other then #'d cards does not exist. Even the top rookie base won't fetch much.
🃏🃏 for COLLECTABILITY: These are cards...so, technically you can collect them...right? Listen, Chronicles isn't a set you're ever going to go back to thumb through. It's forever condemned to a cardboard box life of solitude. I'm being a bit hyperbolic. My point is these are not cards collectors seek out. Chronicles is an excellent beginner set. It has a purpose and serves it well.
🚨FINAL THOUGHTS🚨: Would I recommend Chronicles, sort of. On a good box, you're still losing. But ripping wax can't be about return. What it is about is fun, and Chronicles is solid in that department. We're talking Hobby here. Retail is a different animal all together, and best to be avoided like a hungry lion on the plain of Africa. If you're budget is sub $300, and you want a fun rip, Chronicles has you covered.
