Описание к видео Unsung Heroes (1) of 50 acre Reforestation Project @ Sungai Buaya, Selangor

Unsung Heroes (1) of 50 acre Reforestation Project @ Sungai Buaya, Selangor

The Initiative:

This is a private reforestation initiative by Green Tree Plantation covering 50 acres, with approval granted by the Selangor Forestry Department [00:00].

Progress:

As of the interview, 6,000 trees have already been planted across several designated locations within the site [00:10].

Vision:

The goal is to "heal Mother Earth" by converting secondary forest back into primary "virgin" jungle using native primary species like Meranti and Keruing [00:43], [01:08].

Ecological Impact:

The project aims to create a carbon sink, serve as a "green lung," ensure water safety, and help battle climate change [01:19].

Operational Details

Private Effort: David highlights that they are among the few (the fourth party) to undertake private reforestation in the state [01:00].
Forest Succession:

He explains that while the site currently has secondary forest trees, these typically die off in 5–10 years.

The primary species being planted will take over and last for hundreds of years through a process of ecological succession [01:50].
Community Involvement:

The project hires Orang Asli workers, providing benefits to the local indigenous community [02:44].

Funding:

Currently, the expenses are primarily funded by David and his partner (Mr. Moo), with additional support from friends who donate trees [02:53].

Exhibition & Philosophy

The "Still Forest Pool": At the event, David set up an art installation as a tribute to the forest monk Ajahn Chah.

Inspired by the book The Still Forest Pool, the installation features mirrors where visitors can see their own reflections, prompting self-reflection [03:30], [03:53].
Spiritual Connection: David notes the significance of trees in Buddhism, mentioning that the Buddha was born, enlightened, and passed away under trees [02:20].
Saplings & Sponsorship: There were approximately 900 saplings at the event booth, including native species like Meranti, Keruing, and Kundang. About 150 had been sponsored by the time of the recording [04:32], [04:46].
