Terrakion has returned to legendary raid as a part of Road To Unova event
In the past, Terrakion has been defeated as Duo Raids in this channel with different Pokemons. With 7 different weaknesses, a lot Pokemon are viable against Terrakion, which gives players a lot option when fighting against it.
With a year passed, the biggest change is once again the raid system. With raid system rework, some long staying raid glitch has been fixed, which gives a big advantage on player side generally.
In terms of raid counters, there is not much new viable raid attacker against Terrakion in these 15 months, except that Pokemon. Yes, it is Dusk Mane Necrozma again. In fact, Dusk Mane Necrozma is even stronger than Shadow Mewtwo, marking the first non-Mega Evolution outpowered Shadow Mewtwo as raid attacker.
In this month, Dusk Mane Necrozma has defeated Enamorus-Incarnate as no weatherboost Solo Raid and Xerneas as Solo Raid in Snow weather. While Terrakion is slightly more bulky than Xerneas, with Snow weather boost, Dusk Mane Necrozma was able to hit harder on Terrakion than they were against Enamorus-Incarnate in Windy weather.
Which means, Dusk Mane Necrozma is also able to defeat Terrakion as Solo Raid. Now before you ask, Shadow Mewtwo cannot do this. Dusk Mane Necrozma is the only Pokemon viable for Terrakion Solo Raid, which also work as a proof of it outpowered Shadow Mewtwo.
Similar to Enamorus-Incarnate Solo Raid, Dusk Mane Necrozma would prefer a moveset which hits it harder. Terrakion learns Double Kick/Zen Headbutt/Smack Down as fast move, in which Dusk Mane Necrozma would prefer the hardest hitting Double Kick. In terms of charged moves, Terrakion learns Close Combat/Rock Slide/Earthquake. While Earthquake hits hardest on Dusk Mane Necrozma, it also has high risk to cause energy overflow. Close Combat is the most favorable one in terms of energy utilization.
This time, the team of "Metagross" has challenged Double Kick/Close Combat Terrakion in Snow weather. While PokeBattler shows Dusk Mane Necrozma has 336s speed against Terrakion, which is similar to Enamorus-Incarnate in Windy weather, Dusk Mane Necrozma had instead found Terrakion being much more manageable. This is due to Terrakion's charged move, Close Combat, hits hard enough such that Dusk Mane Necrozma does not need to retry until Terrakion used it way more frequent than average.
However, with Terrakion hits harder, Dusk Mane Necrozma would lose more energy if Terrakion used Close Combat right before Sunsteel Strike is charged. Unfortunately, similar to Xerneas and Enamorus-Incarnate Solo Raid, there is no work around for this. The only thing Dusk Mane Necrozma can do is pray it doesn't occur too often to ruin the attempt.
Thankfully, Dusk Mane Necrozma got lucky this time and win by first try with 2 seconds left, as shown by how unprepared this attempt was on rejoining.
