Grab the silver sword in chapter 1 which will help you on your journey during the beginnings of the game. I believe it's the Silver Sword that Geralt loses after the prologue. It will also help you complete the Silver Sword quest.

The Sword of Kaer Morhen, a rare silver sword can be found on a skeleton lying between the two rocky outcrops directly north of the entrance to Iorveth's hideout in the forest outside of Flotsam. However, the path to this location is only available once the relevant quest has been completed.

You don't need to wait to have orens to buy one from the merchant or get 2 silver ores that are hard to get by in the beginning.

The Sword Of Kaer Morhen also provides higher damage proving very effective even at later stages in the game.
