Evolution has helped identify genetic differences that affect disease risk and physical traits among human populations, making it a valuable but often overlooked tool for studying human biology. The Reilly Lab focuses on understanding non-coding genetic differences, which make up most of human genetic diversity, using advanced machine learning and experimental techniques to identify and study functional genetic variants. New methods have been developed, including CRISPR-based techniques and synthetic DNA technologies, to directly examine how these non-coding genetic differences affect cells.
