My name is Austin Hayes I'm a board-certified plastic surgeon with offices in Portland and Seattle. Today I want to talk to you about mommy makeover procedures specifically the recovery. I get a lot of questions about what's involved in the recovery how quickly can I get back to work and how quickly can I get back to taking care of my family.


It's important to know that a mommy makeover combines procedures of the breasts and the tummy and that's done during one operation so you have one period of recovery. That's a benefit compared to separating those procedures and having two separate recovery times.

Probably the biggest thing to recover from after the mommy makeover is a tummy tuck a tummy tuck is a wonderful procedure because it flattens your tummy but it does this by using a line of sutures that tightens your abdominal wall. It's important to let those heal fully and so it's important not to lift more than 10 pounds for about six weeks.This can be hard for some moms with young children who need lifting so it's important to know that you'll need more help at home. As far as pain medication people have discomfort for about one to two weeks and will take pain medication during that time you'll start being more active at about two weeks and it's six weeks you can do anything you want including working out lifting whatever you want without any restrictions.
