We spent 10 days in the Kruger National Park in what is becoming an annual tradition for Prasheen and myself. We started off birding up in the Northern part of the park. on an Extreme Birding weekend with the West Rand honorary rangers and then worked our way down the Park to Sirheni, Shingwedzi, Lethaba and Satara.
This is the the sixth installment of our recent trip, driving down from Shingwedzi to Letaba camp, which remains one of my favourite camps to stay at. The drives remained quiet with mostly birds and more elephants to be seen. The early morning light led to some better bird photography opportunities. The late afternoon sighting of black storks feeding with saddle billed and yellow billed storks was great as it was another new species for Prasheen and we got to see 5 of the population of storks that is estimated to number less than 1000 in South Africa (and declining). We still were on the look out for lions, leopards and hyena that seemed to be eluding us - strange for so many days already spent in the park.
