Hong Kong joined nationwide commemorations on Wednesday to mark the 80th anniversary of victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

Chief Secretary for Administration of Hong Kong Chan Kwok-ki led a solemn ceremony at the Memorial Garden of City Hall, where officials, veterans and students stood for the national anthem, a gun salute and two minutes of silence. Chan laid a wreath reading “martyrs immortal”, honoring those who died defending Hong Kong between 1941 and 1945.

Beyond the ceremony, Federation of Hong Kong-Shanghai Associations organized exhibitions, lectures and a collective viewing of the V-day parade. The parade at Tian'anmen Square in Beijing featured over 10,000 troops and unveiled hundreds of advanced weapons, including laser weapons, nuclear ballistic missiles and giant underwater drones.
