The centre of Cambridge is very busy and there is no parking here so you can either come by train and bus or park your car on Queen’s Road or Grand Arcade Shopping Centre.

1. A great place to start your adventure would be Great St Mary’s Church. You can climb the Tower of this magnificent building to see the panoramic views of the city. Inside the church, you can choose a guide book in any of a dozen different languages. It is not very easy to climb the narrow stairs and there are 123 steps! But the views you will see are definitely worth it! You will see King's College Chapel, Market Square from above.

2. Then head to Market Square with lots of colourful tents and grab some ice-cream or enjoy a nice lunch in one of many restaurants and cafes nearby.

3. One of the must-see things in Cambridge is Corpus Clock. Its face is plated in 24 carat gold! It has no hands or numbers and shows the time by opening slits in the clock face, backlit with blue LEDs. Sitting atop the clock is a monster called the ‘Chronophage’ meaning ‘time-eater’, he is devouring each minute as it passes with a snap of its jaws.

4. King's Parade. In this area, there are lots of original souvenir shops if this is your cup of tea.

5. You can also visit some of the notable colleges in Cambridge if they are open - Trinity College, St. John's College, King's College are the most famous.

6. See the Cambridge Story Exhibition in the Round Church to discover more about the Christian story of Cambridge.

7. The best way to explore Cambridge might be taking a punting tour. There are many companies offering this service and you can choose a private tour, a shared tour or if you are brave, a self-hire punt. It is not easy at all to punt so you will be safer with a professional punter who is also a knowledgeable guide and will tell you all about the history of Cambridge University, its colleges and the most remarkable buildings and bridges that you will see during your tour. The punting tour lasts 45 to 50 minutes and it is the experience you will remember for the rest of your life.

8. One of the main tourist attractions in Cambridge is Bridge of Sighs. It was named after the famous bridge in Venice, but that one was built between the prison and the execution site so the “sigh” meant the last sigh of the convicted. The story of this bridge is more positive - it is for students who passed their exam and leave the college with a sigh of relief.

9. One of the most magnificent buildings in Cambridge is King’s College Chapel, the second largest chapel in the world after Sistine chapel in Vatican. Another famous building you will see is Wren Library that houses the book collection of about 75 thousand books, including Shakespeare’s plays, Lord Byron’s poems, Charles Darwin’s journals and all the stories and illustrations of Winnie the Pooh!

10. Another famous bridge is Mathematical Bridge. A popular myth is that it was built by Isaac Newton with no nuts and bolts. But in reality, the bridge was designed by William Etheridge, and built by James Essex in 1749, 22 years after Isaac Newton’s death.

Most punts turn around near Mathematical Bridge and on your way back, you can enjoy the stunning views once again and see Clare Bridge, the oldest one on the river Cam, the Jerwood Library that looks like a prow of a ship projecting out towards the water and ST JOHN’S college New Court that looks like a palace but in reality is a building with teaching rooms and bedrooms for students. St John’s college’s alumni include 12 Nobel prize winners and 7 prime ministers. Prince William took a course in estate management run by this college. St John's College is thought to be inhabited by a number of ghosts. One of them was a student who surrendered his soul to the devil in exchange for the knowledge to pass his exams. I don’t believe that, what about you?
