HYDERABADI PISTA HOUSE HALEEM

Hyderabadi haleem is regarded as an international delicacy. In Hyderabad, the dish is often consumed at celebratory events such as weddings. It is consumed especially during Iftaar, the evening meal following the day-long fast, observed by Muslims during the month of Ramadan.

Pista House - a perfect example of a typical hyderabadi restaurant serving traditional cuisine like kebabs biryani & the world famous Haleem. Established by Mr Mohd Abdul Majeed, an enterprising businessman with vision, foresight and drive allied with excellent knowledge on food and customer's tastes.

The wheat, barley and gram are boil8ed in salt water until they are tender. The cooked wheat, barley and lentils are then mixed with the meat (Beef or Mutton or Chicken) gravy and blended with a heavy hand mixer to obtain a paste-like consistency. The cooking procedure takes about 6 hours to complete.prepare this haleem recipe, all you need is boneless mutton, yoghurt, broken wheat or Dalia, cashews, urad and chana dal along with tomato, onion and a melange of spices. The traditional way of cooking involves several hours i.e., it is prepared using the slow-cooking method.

What does Haleem taste like? Haleem tastes like a rich porridge of legumes, meat, and grains. Onions, spices, and aromatics give it layers of complexity and nuance. The garnishing such as ginger, cilantro, and green chili peppers provides textural interest.

A new name was given to this dish: haleem, the Persian name for the bland wheat-and-meat hareesah. Saiqa's Asghar Ali was clear on why daleem was the correct name for the dish: “Dal se banta hai, isliye daleem.” It's made with dal (lentils), hence daleem.
