A statute of limitations is the time limit placed on filing lawsuits in Ohio.

The time limit can be created by a statute or by a contract between two parties.

Think time limitation to file a lawsuit. Sort of like sue by this date or forever hold your peace.

As for example, in a car accident case, Ohio law states you normally have 2 years from the accident to settle your claim or file a lawsuit against the person who hurt you, or you lose your claim forever.

You have to file suit by the statute of limitations or you are forever barred from filing a lawsuit to collect for your injuries.
