Boot From External SSD on a 2017 iMac - Better Than A Fusion Drive?

In this video we show you how to boot MacOS from an external SSD hard drive on a 2017 iMac. If you are looking at upgrading your fusion hard drive this is a great way to get SSD speeds without opening up your iMac and potentially breaking something.

Did you know you can boot from both an external hard drive and the fusion drive with this method. All you need to do is load MacOS on a fast SSD enclosure and boot to that drive. It's like having two computers in one because you can choose what hard drive (ssd or fusion drive) you want to boot to.
