Mamata-led Trinamool Congress party is ahead in all four municipal corporations on Monday. The four civic bodies are – Asansol, Bidhannagar, Siliguri and Chandannagar. These four municipal bodies went to polls on February 12.

TMC scored well in Siliguri where it had lagged behind earlier. Let us see the ward-wise score in Siliguri:

TMC won 37 out of 47 wards in Siliguri. BJP is lagging behind and has only got 5 seats. The Left got 4 seats and Congress got 1. TMC won in 20, 2, 47, 17, 1, 3, 31, 33, 18, 6, 25, 34, 26, 27, 42, 14, 7, 43, 28, 80, 32, 10, 46, 12, 35, 37, 38, 44, 13, 15, 21, 36, 30, 41, 39, 24.

BJP won in ward number 5, 8, 11, 9. Left won in 29, 45, 19, 22. Congress won only in ward 16.

In case of Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation, a total of 203 candidates were in the fray in 41 wards. 200 contested in 47 wards of Siliguri civic body, 120 contested in 33 wards in Chandannagar and 430 candidates in 106 wards in Asansol Municipal Corporation.

The State Election Commission had announced election in the four corporations on January 22, but later postponed it following an order from the Calcutta High Court due to the pandemic.

West Bengal CM and TMC chairperson Mamata Banerjee congratulated the candidates and the people of Asansol, Bidhannagar, Siliguri and Chandanagore and tweeted the following:

“It is once again an overwhelming victory of Ma, Mati, Manush. My heartiest congratulations to the people of Asansol, Bidhannagar, Siliguri & Chandanagore for having put their faith and confidence on All India Trinamool Congress candidates in the Municipal Corporation elections.”

In Siliguri, TMC’s Goutam Deb won by more than 3,000 votes in ward number 33. As the trends predicted towards a clear win, the TMC party workers and supporters started celebrating with green colour across the state.

Amid such celebrations, Mamata Banerjee urged her party-men by saying, “We have to remain polite and continue working for the cause of common people."
