How to Get Rid of App Icon Badges that Won't Go Away in iOS

Ok, so I know I can't be the only one that this has happened to. You unlock your iPhone to see those familiar little red dots on your apps that let you know "hey, you missed something!". You go through them and watch as they disappear one by one, like a mediphorical check mark on your phone's virtual to-do list. But then, when you complete that one tasks and hit the home button expecting the app icon badge to go away, it's still there.

If you're like me you start to freak out ever so slightly, reopening the app and making sure the task it wanted you to do is done until you finally realize that the app badge is just stuck there. What seems like such a small problem, starts to slowly bug the crap out of you every time you subsequently check your phone and it's still there, staring you in the face.

So what do you do to finally get rid of it? Well, there are a few options. Let's go through them in order of effort and severity.
