Changing the bass note of the guitar chords you play (known as alternate bass) can completely change their individual sound, and function within a progression.

This type of chord is often called a "slash chord" because of how we write them. C/G, for example, means C major with G in the bass (the lowest note). Am/G means A minor with G in the bass.

This lesson shows you how to position this alternate bass in different ways, including the 3rd, 5th and 7th of the chord, with examples of how they might be used in a chord progression.
