The party races to Soldanis’ burning home, using the beads of fire suppression provided by Dorian to quickly smother the flames. Emily is already on site and orders the Shields of Hakkan to cordon off the area—strictly forbidding anyone from entering the house.

Inside, the party discovers a bookshelf whose contents have been dumped into a heap on the floor. Beneath it, a dark X has been burned directly into the wood. Upstairs, in the child’s bedroom, Melchizedek finds a flame-shaped pendant and immediately recognizes it as a Lightbringer sigil.

Hoping to learn James’s fate, the party decides to confront the Lightbringers directly. They “infiltrate” the warehouse by the docks—known to be owned by the Miarelle family—and quickly realize they are not alone. After a surprisingly candid conversation with Lightbringer Ord, they agree—under false pretenses—to destroy the military outpost the mayor tasked them with clearing.

Before departing, however, something feels wrong. The party notices that Lightbringer Ord never once steps out of the shadows. Mikhael confirms their growing suspicion with a spell: the Lightbringers are undead.

With no time to spare, the party flees the city and makes camp at the abandoned Banded Mine Smeltery, high along the Northern Road overlooking Sanguim. The structure is eerily shrouded in mist, stained red by the setting sun.

The night passes mostly undisturbed—though Eugene does not sleep well. In a strange dream, he recognizes the portrait in the mayor’s residence as a depiction of the Sanguimancer. As the figure’s ominous smile reveals pointed incisors, Eugene jolts awake, sitting upright in his bedroll.
