Rushad Nanavatty is the Managing Director of Cities Program (Urban Transformation) at the Rocky Mountain Institute. In this episode, ‘Understanding The Future of Urban Cooling In India’, with Rushad Nanavatty, he helps us understand the deeper meaning of urban cooling, why it’s important for India, what are its implications and how we can achieve this in our cities.

We discussed in-depth about the reasons behind why cities are heating up and what are the factors that are contributing to the rise in the temperatures. We also discussed the ways in which urban cooling can become a mainstream thing for India. He helped us in understanding the connections between the building units, built environment, the energy system, nature, and how we can work across these sectors to solve the challenge. We further discussed cross-sectional administration opportunities, behaviour change in consumers, new technologies, green spaces, city scale and planning and how planning supports the whole ecosystem development around expanding cities. Lastly, we discussed what are the different kinds of skill sets we need to solve the problem in the next three to five years.
