Duane Eddy Signature Gretsch 6120 - The Twang Heard Around the World

Live demo recorded at PREMIER GUITARS in Sydney

The twang heard around the world. 1958 saw the release of ‘Rebel Rouser’ by Duane Eddy. The low, reverberant twangy lead guitar that personified 1950s guitar music. The song was played by Duane on his 1957 Gretsch 6120 ‘Chet Atkins’ model, with two dynasonic pickups. Dynasonic pickups (also produced as DeArmond pickups) have a signature sound that has been described as a ‘telecaster on steroids’. They have high fidelity, deeper low end and a top end sparkle much like the later Gretsch Filtertron pickups. Some incredible tones can be had with these pickups.

This guitar presents as a well-played 26-year-old guitar. It has some pitting on the gold finish. The orange stain finish is in excellent condition. Minimal fretwear and a straight neck make this an easy guitar to play right up and down the neck.

One interesting anomaly with this guitar is the bracing. Duane Eddy models typically feature trestle bracing – an arch of sorts, connecting each of the two parallel braces to the back of the body. This guitar has early 50s style parallel braces without trestle bracing, with a single block of wood glued between the braces under the bridge.

The wide frequency response from the pickups combined with the hollow 16” body create a big, thumping sound. This guitar lends itself well to fingerstyle picking yet rocks out effortlessly with the big sound of the dynasonic pickups.

This eye catching Gretsch 6120 will make you stand out from the crowd, with stunning looks and fantastic Gretsch twang.
