Rags: "Can't Hide My Love" (WPSF 1977, UK)

Rags was a trio of British pop singers: Jill Shirley, Steve Glen and Nichola Martin. They had taken part in the (non-televised) 1977 edition of "A Song For Europe", but did not have success with their tune "Promises Promises". Eight months later, they ran off with the international Grand Prize at Tokyo's World Popular Song Festival for their tune "Can't Hide My Love". Some point the finger at their gimmicky staging (stripping out of huge mantles made of multi-colored rags to reveal gold lamé disco outfits) for putting them over their competition.

Unsurprisingly, Nichola Martin was responsible for putting together Bucks Fizz some years later (and Jill Shirley was their manager!).
