Fixing a Lathe Cross Slide Screw Support

In this video I show how I redesigned and machined the cross slide feed screw support by adding a deep groove ball bearing and thrust bearing. This design is a bit of a compromise. Angular contact bearings would be the best solution, but I didn't want to have to lengthen the screw. Utilizing a preloaded deep groove ball bearing and a needle style thrust washer allows for a small package with minimal modification required to the existing screw. In the end it turned out well and the screw is much smoother with no play (sorry for the pun).
