Mansfield murder case from 1981 solved, but suspect was killed by police last month

MANSFIELD, Ohio (WSYX) — Investigators said they have solved a cold case homicide from 1981, the death of Debra Lee Miller, 18, but the suspect was shot and killed in a standoff with police last month when they tried to serve a warrant in another case. Police said James Vanest, 68, is responsible for the murder of Miller but was shot and killed in Canton in November.
