There is a place for art and sculpture in the lives of everyone. In Calne there is fine collection of art works and sculpture. Some pieces are more obvious than others as I discovered on my circular walk from the Calne Pocket Park on a fine spring morning a few days ago.

The Calne Artists Group were very important in creating the work I saw and photographed within a 10 minute walk from the Calne Pocket Park. I could see they involved lots of local children, luckily the 11th Scouts Troop left their mark in the bricks by the Owl Mosaic. I am aware that school children participated in making the Owl Mosaic and other mosaics in Castlefields. It would be great to find out how this project came about and more about what the aims and goals were. Were they successful? There are other mosaics in Calne, at Coleman's Farm and along Abherd Brook, to be captured by me on another circular walk from the Pocket Park.

It would be really interesting to find more about the Calne Artists Group, the only information online I could find is here https://www.brlsi.org/events-proceedi... - there must be more information somewhere! The artwork I saw on my walk could do with a bit of T.L.C. The Pocket Park Committee are hoping to run a design competition for a sculpture using recycled material and have a new piece of sculpture at the Pocket Park once the lockdown has been relaxed and we are free to move around in the "new normal world"
