Original Air Date: October 7, 1981. One of Hampton Roads' most popular malls opened its doors for the first time 40 years ago, in October of 1981. Chesapeake's Greenbrier Mall was a shopper's heaven for much of its history, but -- like most malls -- it has seen major decline in the last decade as it struggled to remain competitive with the rise of online shopping. After Sears, one of its opening-day anchor stores, closed in 2018, the long-term future of Greenbrier Mall has remained in question.
