Facebook is one of the most recognizable companies in the world. As of 2023 they have an estimated 2.96 billion users, which is over 1/4 of the world population. The amount of wealth, power and influence that Facebook has been able to gain from this has been immense! But Facebook's reign may be coming to an end as not only has their stock taken a massive hit but their reputation as well. The company was once a part of what the stock market and investors called FAANG!
FAANG was set of 5 companies that had the biggest impact on the United States stock market. FAANG was comprised of Facebook, Apple, Amazon, Netflix and Google. But in 2021 and 2022 Facebook broke the record of the largest stock market value lost in history!

This has led to the company having to make massive cutsback and cutbacks often always result in layoffs! 2023 looks to be more of the same for Facebook and the Metaverse as their stock price continues to slump and Silicone Valley continues to suffer under this tech recession! This may be known as the Great Tech Recession of 2023 by future generations. Because almost every tech company in Silicone Valley is feeling the heat including Salesforce, Invidia, Microsoft, Apple, Twitter, Linkedin, Google, and many more!



Facebook has seen better days! Just in 2022 alone, Facebook has lost over $900 billion dollars in value! This is alarming for any stockholder of the company and rightfully so. Many are saying that Facebook’s days are numbered and people have moved on. But in reality one of the biggest blows to facebook was the war between Facebook and Apple. When Apple announced their new privacy setting that would not allow tracking for advertisers, this was something that Facebook could not tolerate and would go on to sue Apple over this. The impact of Apple’s new privacy setting impacted Facebook immediately and the stock price continued to plummet throughout 2021 and 2022. This has led to Facebook laying off 11,000 employees in 2022 and the layoffs will continue well into 2023. Mark Zuckerberg has been spending billions in trying to help Facebook pivot into the Metaverse, which he feels will be the future of the company. As of right now advertising is the foundation of Facebook's revenue stream and without it the company will not survive.
