The US Army M1064A3 Mortar Carrier is a self-propelled, tracked artillery vehicle designed to provide immediate, heavy indirect fire support to ground forces. It is part of the long-serving M113 family of vehicles.

Armament Details:

Maximum Range: Approximately 7,200 meters (7.2 km or about 4.5 miles).
Rate of Fire: Up to 16 rounds per minute (max) and 4 rounds per minute (sustained).
Ammunition: Fires High Explosive (HE), Smoke (WP/White Phosphorus), and Illumination rounds.
Firing Arc: The mortar fires through a large roof hatch, typically to the rear of the vehicle, with a 90-degree traverse.

Context
The M1064A3 is an upgrade of the earlier M106 mortar carriers, which carried a 107mm mortar. The "A3" designation signifies it incorporates the mobility and reliability improvements of the M113A3, such as the improved engine, transmission, and external fuel tanks for better survivability.

It remains in service with the US Army, although it is scheduled to be replaced by the M1287 Mortar Carrier Vehicle, which is based on the newer Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicle (AMPV) chassis.
