In this video, I highlight the Great Sandhills, Saskatchewan, Canada. This area is one of the many natural features of Saskatchewan worthy of a visit. Geologically, the Great Sandhills started to form about 10,000 years ago at the end of the last ice age. As the ice sheet melted, meltwater rivers flowed into a meltwater lake and formed a delta. When the ice sheet completely melted away, the lake dried up, the delta sands also started to dry in the hot summer sun. Strong westerly winds blew the dried sands around and formed sand plains and sand dunes. The sandy area was a special place for First Nation people and is a special place for insects, birds, mammals, and plants that are specially adapted to survive in the harsh sandy habitat.
