Описание к видео The Miraculous Healing Power of Meditation: When the Mind Lets Go, the Body Recovers| Ajahn Brahm

The Parable of the Raft (Kullūpama)
"Suppose, monks, a man traveling along a path sees a great expanse of water, with the near shore dubious and risky, and the further shore secure and free from risk, but with neither a ferryboat nor a bridge for passing over from the near shore to the further shore.
He might think: 'This is a great expanse of water... let me collect grass, wood, branches, and foliage, and bind them together into a raft, and supported by the raft, and making an effort with my hands and feet, I can safely cross over to the further shore.'
And having crossed over to the further shore, he might think: 'This raft has been very helpful to me. Supported by this raft and making an effort with my hands and feet, I have safely crossed over to the further shore. Suppose I were to hoist it on my head or load it on my shoulder, and then go wherever I want.'
Now, monks, what do you think? By doing so, would that man be doing what should be done with that raft?"
— "No, Lord."
— "So what should that man do, monks, in order to do what should be done with that raft? Here, having crossed over to the further shore, he might think: 'This raft has been very helpful to me... Suppose I were to haul it onto the dry land or set it adrift in the water, and then go wherever I want.' By doing so, monks, that man would be doing what should be done with that raft.

So too, monks, I have shown you how the Dhamma is similar to a raft, being for the purpose of crossing over, not for the purpose of grasping.
Monks, when you know the Parable of the Raft, you should abandon even the good teachings (dhamma), how much more so things contrary to the teachings (adhamma).

Followers of Buddhism don’t acknowledge a supreme god or deity. They instead focus on achieving enlightenment—a state of inner peace and wisdom. When followers reach this spiritual echelon, they’re said to have experienced nirvana.
The religion’s founder, Buddha, is considered an extraordinary being, but not a god. The word Buddha means “enlightened.”
The path to enlightenment is attained by utilizing morality, meditation and wisdom. Buddhists often meditate because they believe it helps awaken truth.
There are many philosophies and interpretations within Buddhism, making it a tolerant and evolving religion.
Some scholars don’t recognize Buddhism as an organized religion, but rather, a “way of life” or a “spiritual tradition.”
Buddhism encourages its people to avoid self-indulgence but also self-denial.
Buddha’s most important teachings, known as The Four Noble Truths, are essential to understanding the religion.
Buddhists embrace the concepts of karma (the law of cause and effect) and reincarnation (the continuous cycle of rebirth).
Followers of Buddhism can worship in temples or in their own homes.
Buddhist monks, or bhikkhus, follow a strict code of conduct, which includes celibacy.
