The Winter Rain recites the story of Karan Khurana, a former teacher of literature and a widower who is preparing to end his life just before the first rain of winter; the time when his wife had died. The memories of his deceased wife attempt to influence him in taking his life so that they can be together forever while his brother, Arjun, fights to save Karan from himself. The memories of his mother, a woman who died waiting for her younger son, persuade him to move on and live the life he always wanted while the memories of his hateful father agitate Karan further into believing that the world would be a better place if he just gave up on himself. The story explores the emotions of a grief stricken Karan as he confronts his past and explores life, love, depression and his own will. The winters get to his head and create an emotional turmoil, and then the blissful shower, the first rain of winter, soothes his soul and gives him peace. The ultimate outcome still relies on Karan; his choice between life and death. Does he find the courage to kill himself or does he find a reason to live?
