Blockchain technology is enabling new and innovative business models in almost all aspects of commerce. In the highly regulated area of financial services, regulators and advisors are struggling to apply existing rules to this new technology.

This speaker will discuss the law of blockchain enabled technologies including cryptocurrencies, tokens and initial coin offerings (“ICOs”) and will cover issues in crypto, tax aspects and a basic SAFT/ICO transaction with an emphasis on securities regulation in the US and abroad of the tokenization of products and services and ICOs.

The speaker will also discuss other regulatory aspects of token sales, such as regulation as commodities trading by the CFTC and regulation as a money services business by FINCen; the tax aspects of trading in cryptocurrency and recent US enforcement initiatives, the surprising tax consequences of raising money through an ICO (even a foreign one) and secondary trading, regulated exchanges and alternative trading systems.
