This is not a professionally filmed video by any means, just an aquarist thoroughly enjoying the hobby! I sort of anticipated these were going to spawn for me but not this soon. I took these pictures\videos and made this compilation to look back on as it was incredibly neat to have and see this spawning happen!

Orangethroat Darters are typically found in faster moving water, within riffles or pools. They typically spawn in early spring. These darters are substrate spawners and females will dive into sand or gravel to spawn. A male will court the female and even guard them as they burrow, and then spawn while the female is buried. A head wagging behavior by the females is a sign that she is ready to lay eggs. Once spawning is complete the eggs are in the substrate and left to develop and hatch with no parental care.

The fish in this video were collected in southern Nebraska in spring of 2021. I do not currently have the ability to collect eggs and raise the fry but hope to in the future. Thanks for watching and please feel free to ask any questions in the comments below!
