In the Wake of King Charles' Cancer Diagnosis, Prince Harry Remains Cold toward Queen Camilla
According to a column by Petronella Wyatt in The Telegraph, Prince Harry chose not to remain in the same room as his stepmother, Queen Camilla, during his recent quick 24-hour visit to London to see his father, King Charles III, amid his cancer diagnosis.
A close friend of Camilla's said that Harry's choice was a "massive opportunity missed" to show his stepmother some mercy. In his memoir "Spare," published in 2023, the Duke of Sussex candidly discussed his complicated sentiments about Camilla, describing her as "dangerous" and the "villain."
Harry had "complex feelings" about becoming a stepparent, whom he felt had used him for their own public relations purposes, as he described it in the book. He said Camilla had leaked family secrets to increase her profile. Though she was married to Charles for nearly twenty years, he still called her the "other woman" throughout that time.
Harry apparently wanted to maintain his distance from Camilla and his recent trip to London was for a 45-minute meeting with his father, despite their bad relationship. Meghan Markle, his wife, stayed in California with their children and did not accompany him on this visit.
King Charles III's cancer diagnosis came during a benign prostate enlargement surgery, according to the royal family. Doctors have advised the 75-year-old monarch to delay public-facing tasks until he begins a regimen of regular treatments.
As soon as he met with King Charles, Prince Harry—who has resigned from his royal duties and is now a US resident with his wife Meghan Markle—left London and returned to their home in California.
