A number of students find it very difficult to get admission into a master's degree programme abroad.
Many students abandon the process before they complete it.
A large number of students don't even know how to go about it.
Top universities are very competitive and you must stand out to be considered.
Admission procedures differ from country to country and from university to university, but the rules are almost the same.

So, finally, you've made up your mind to continue studies at the master level.
You've also decided to continue that master programme out of your home country. How do you go about it? How do you apply for admission into a master's degree programme abroad?

You need time to:
• Do research
• And to put your documents together and send it off to the admission institution.
It is always important to start that the application process as early as possible. In most universities the process takes between six months and one year.

Once you've selected the countries and universities you intend to go, take a look at their admission requirements. Requirements differ from country to country and from university to university.

Some universities require you to:
Submit tests of English as a foreign language.
Submit Graduate Record Examination Results.
If you must, make arrangements to write any of these tests or examinations.

Testing institutions will send the results to your institution when requested. So, continue with your application process while you make arrangements to take the exams if necessary.

Apart from language and Graduate Record Exams, almost all universities have the same requirements.
1. Certificate of Previous studies, especially your first degree.
2. Transcripts mostly sent directly to the admission body by your previous university or professional school.
3. Letters of Recommendation: Two or three letters from your previous lecturers or employers.
4. Statement of Purpose: A statement or letter in which you outline why you are applying. This is very important. Always allow someone to go through your letter first before you send it off to the admission body.

Other documents may include:
• Proof of finance
• Proof of payment of application fee, if there is.

Do You Have all These Documents?
Fill out the application form. You can do this in two ways:

Manually: Here, you fill and send application, together with all other documents, by post.
Electronically: You fill the application online and send it electronically. You can also pay the application fee (if any) online. You may also be asked to scan your documents and send them with online. Check out what the university wants.
Where to Send Forms?

Send the application to the address stipulated by the university. Some countries, like Sweden, have a single admission body that manages all applications for all universities. This saves time and money. But you may also be forced to send different application forms to different Universities. Again, check each University's requirements.

The Right Address:

Make sure you provide the right address the institution would use to contact you for more information or send your admission letter, in case you are admitted. If not, you may never get it.

What next after application?
Wait. You may have to wait for six months or more, to receive any results. Be patient about it and do your normal daily activities. Most often, you receive two results:
You have been admitted!!! Congratulations!!! Great. You deserved it. Thus, start preparing to leave the country.
You have not been admitted!!! Sorry. This does not mean you can't study at the master's level abroad. Remember there are thousands of schools and degree programs and there is always an opportunity to retry. Don't give up.
