Actors Who Turned Down Marvel

We all tend to think of working with Marvel to be an actor’s dream, and yet these are the actors who decided to turn down the Marvel Cinematic Universe, for one reason or another. Jason Momoa may be best known for his work with the DC Extended Universe as Aquaman, or on the HBO series Game of Thrones, but he could have had a chance to appear in the MCU as Drax the Destroyer in Guardians of the Galaxy! Still, we think that Dave Bautista did a great job in the role anyway. Emily Blunt has worked with the Walt Disney Company on Mary Poppins Returns and Jungle Cruise, but she could have had the opportunity to play Black Widow instead of Scarlet Johansson! Russell Crowe was Bryan Singer’s first choice to play Wolverine, and yet he turned it down because of certain similarities between his previous role in Gladiator. But, fortunately for us, Russell Crowe did recommend Hugh Jackman for the part, or else we wouldn’t be able to see him return for the upcoming Deadpool 3! Tom Cruise has made a name for himself with works like Top Gun: Maverick and Mission: Impossible, but did you know that he nearly took Robert Downey Jr.’s place in the part of Iron Man? Joaquin Phoenix would have made the perfect Doctor Strange were it not for Benedict Cumberbatch suiting the role so well, but we still think that he’s done pretty well for himself working with Todd Phillips on the Joker movie.
