Описание к видео Adding Oscillating Spindle Sander Functionality to the Harbor Freight Folding Workbench

Are you looking to buy a 𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐥𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫? Can't find a 𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐩 𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐥𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 at Home Depot, Lowe's, or Harbor Freight that fits your budget? Are you considering some of the DIY spindle sander projects found on YouTube? If this sounds like you don't feel bad, this was me just a few weeks ago. After reading hundreds of spindle sander reviews, I had narrowed my search to the Harbor Freight, Ryobi, Craftsman, Ridgid, and Grizzly. In my opinion, the Grizzly oscillating spindle sander and the one from Harbor Freight Tools look almost identical. The Grizzly is about 25% more, and you have to order it online, while the one from Harbor Freight, you can walk in and pick it up! With the difference being the price, of course.

The Ryobi and the Ridgid 𝐨𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐥𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 are both owned by the same mother company (Techtronic Industries). Over the years, they are starting to look like each other more than ever before. I have quite a few Ryobi tools and have no complaints about it! The 18 Volt One+ family is truly incredible! It all boils down to color preference, green or orange! The Craftsman oscillating spindle sander is the oddball here! Since being acquired by Stanley Black & Decker in 2017, I haven't had the confidence to buy any Craftsman tool. I was concerned that Stanley Black & Decker would do what they are notorious for doing cheap it down to the point that it will become quite unreliable as many Stanley Black & Decker products are. With that said, I have to give them credit for some of the new stuff I have seen over at Lowe's. Especially the new tools boxes and tool chests.
In many ways, this video is somewhat of a follow-up or part 2 to the Folding Workbench from Harbor Freight video (   • Folding Workbench with Clamping Vise & Peg...  ). And believe it or not, the idea of adding oscillating spindle sander functionality to my Harbor Freight folding workbench started at the Rockler website! So I was looking for some hardware, and I ran into the Triton TSPSP650 portable oscillating spindle sander. A unit like this is perfect for a small woodworking shop like mine because it takes no space. When you have a small woodworking shop, tools with a large footprint, like the spindle sander from Harbor Freight, Ryobi, Craftsman, Ridgid, and Grizzly, are not ideal. Size has been the primary reason why I haven't purchased one of those units. The question of where I will put it has always been in the back of my head. For one reason or another, I bookmarked the Triton portable oscillating spindle sander at the Rockler website, but I didn't purchase it on that day. Then a few days later, I was browsing the Facebook Marketplace looking for some cheap used tools, and I ran into an ad from Lowe's promoting one costing just $48! WOW! I have to say I am not a fan of WEN tools, and some of the reviews leave a lot to be desire. However, costing just $48 means, I can buy two of these units and still have $20 for gas! So, I went ahead and order with FREE shipping to my local store.

After unboxing and closer examination, I have concluded that there is a considerable probability that the same Chinese guy made the Triton TSPSP650 and WEN HA5932 𝐨𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐥𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫! Although this unit is quite capable out of the box, I decided to make some modifications in the hope of making it better! I find that attaching it to the workbench is not really practical, so I decided to incorporate it into my Harbor Freight Folding Workbench and expand its capabilities.

Doing this is very easy. I have some ½ inch polypropylene left from the router plate video (   • How to Make a DIY Multi-Use Wood Router Ba...  ) and what I am going to do is make a frame to reinforce the deck and make a large faceplate for the spindle sander. I have both Ebony Wood and Red Oak scraps but opted for the Ebony Wood. It is harder and something desirable when making a plate that comes on and off an MDF deck. The piece of Ebony I have is a little over 10 inches long and 1.5 inches tall. I ripped it into 3/8 strips, flipped the bench, and attached them with plenty of wood glue and 1-inch brad nails. After transferring the frame's dimensions to the front of the deck, I drew a second frame about a ¼ smaller. I cut along this line with the jigsaw and open it to size using a trim bit on the router. Next, cut a ½ rabbet on the top of the deck for the new spindle sander's faceplate to fit. Because I was using a cordless router, I did this in two passes - the first one at a ¼ inch and the second to proper dept.

After cutting the polypropylene faceplate for the spindle sander, I rounded to corners by looking for something with a similar circumference, tracing it, freehanding it with the jigsaw, and then finishing it up with a file! I made the hole for the spindle and the countersinking of the mounting screws on the drill press. Fixing the spindle sander faceplate to the workbench was done with 8/32 1.25-inch flathead screws and brass thread inserts
