Barn Memories is an oral history project completed by the Appalachian Barn Alliance (https://appalachianbarns.org/) and sponsored by the Hart Family Fund for Small Towns of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The project involved interviews with long-time residents of Madison County, NC, all reminiscing about their most cherished barn memories. This interview is one of ten collected during this endeavor.
Sheila Kay Adams is an Appalachian storyteller, author and musician from the Sodom Laurel community in Madison County. Throughout her career, she has performed at many folk music and storytelling events around the United States, Australia and the United Kingdom. Sheila was among eight North Carolina artists to receive the North Carolina Heritage Award and was one of nine individuals to receive a National Heritage Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts.
