Gabriel Nichols throwing a Rhubarb Forcer

Описание к видео Gabriel Nichols throwing a Rhubarb Forcer

Gabriel throwing a large rhubarb forcer. Rhubarb forcers are bell-shaped pots with a lidded opening at the top, used to cover rhubarb to limit photosynthesis. They encourage the plant to grow early in the season and also to produce blanched stems. The pots are placed over two- to three-year-old rhubarb crowns during winter or very early spring. Once shoots appear the lid is taken off, causing them to grow towards the light.

Gabriel Nichols is a potter with 40 years’ experience in the industry, currently producing a range of garden pots; from 3” Longtoms to enormous pots for trees, alongside commissions for bricks, chimney pots and roof tiles. In keeping with traditional methods is the material, as all the clay is locally sourced 'wild' clay dug from the South banks of the Humber Estuary.
