The CBOE's VIX Index is one of the most commonly watched indices in the market, as it tracks the 30-day implied volatility of options on the S&P 500 Index (SPX).

The VIX can be used to select strategies that are appropriate for that market environment, and also to calculate expected market ranges in the future.
