The client's desire for a dwelling that shielded from the western conditions while embracing eastern light and vegetation led to the emergence of a building diagram cradling its garden room. A layered relationship of inclusion and exclusion strategically buffered against the western disturbances

Situated in an atypical suburban setting, the property faced challenges such as noise from an arterial road to the west and exposure to coastal weather from the east

The architectural layout followed the natural terrain, gently stepping down to facilitate a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces

The subtle elevation changes showcased the house's position on a ridge, offering definition to key living areas. Adhering to existing ground levels allowed for the preservation of cherished mature trees on the site.

Addressing site constraints, such as the absence of mains sewer and varying bushfire requirements, early in the design process facilitated the integration of waste water management into landscape irrigation and discrete rainwater storage
