Here's how PPC works:

Advertisers bid on keywords: When someone searches for a keyword relevant to an advertiser's product or service, the search engine decides which ads to show based on a combination of the bid amount and the ad’s quality score.

Ad placement: The ad that wins the auction appears in a prominent location on the search results page or on a partner site.

Pay when clicked: Advertisers only pay when someone actually clicks on their ad, making it a performance-based advertising model.

Ad ranking factors: In addition to the bid amount, factors such as the relevance of the ad, the landing page experience, and the click-through rate (CTR) influence whether the ad is shown and where it is placed.
